The wave shaped roof structure is ordinary. But with the its unique structural system makes the building one and only. From the inside, we can recognize this properties.

Mathematics/ We can see the math inside obviously. The units which are some arched-waved structures, and openings on the shell can be described by the math.

Discretize/ We can recognize the smallest unit which is can be observed on section of the roof-shell, creates a whole space. With the materials and structures, the part creates the whole.

Shape/ With the curves which is the signature of the Zaha, she creates the form of the building. Not only the shell created outside, but also interior has the characteristic of iconic Zaha Architecture. We cannot say that, the form is regular or repetitive but it has a wholistic design approach. Both its space framed surfaces and curtain walls looks like the result of that wholistic design approach.

Wireframe/ The structural construction is always unique in Zaha’s buildings. Every single piece of architecture of Zaha, should be built in different ways because of the her non-repetitive shapes of the buildings. In this case, the shell were divided into some rectangulars thats shape and size are changing in every location on the surface according to the form of the shell. Also, we can see that rectangular pattern on the facade beside all.

But on this blog post, I am going to write about his famous building: Paimio Sanatorium.

Paimio Sanatorium – Kvadrat Interwoven

When we look at plan layout/shape. The building covers landscape like a tree branch. It looks both regular and like coincidence. The spaces between the blocks are perfectly defined and human scaled. Also the architect calls his building “medical instrument”. Basic geometric forms were brought together harmoniously. Circular finishes and rectangular forms are a whole.

Also, of course it has math inside the organization. It is an health building but while creating the building the fundamental approach is modularity. Because it has some repetitive rooms and health units. These were created with thinking human scales and proportions.
